The goal is to braze steel tube to steel tube in 60 seconds using flux and braze alloy.

Two turns open end coil

  • Steel tube (Magnetic) and steel receiver
  • Braze alloy (CDA 681)
  • B-1 Flux

Approximately 1750°F (954°C)

148 kHz

1. The assembly was pre-fluxed (B-1) and assembled with a single braze alloy preformed ring at the interface.
2. The assembly was inverted to permit the receiving section to be at the bottom and permit gravity to assist with the alloy flow.
3. The assembly section was supported on a jack table with a center pivot to permit the parts to be rotated. This ensured uniform heating of the steel in the open "C" coil.
4. Alloy flow and joint completed in 60 seconds.
5. The material was cooled in water following the completion of brazing.
5. The joint was then cross-sectioned to validate that the brazing process had produced a strong, high quality joint.

Induction heating provides:

  • Strong durable joints
  • Selective and precise heat zone, resulting in less part distortion and joint stress than welding
  • Less oxidation
  • Faster heating cycles
  • More consistent results and suitability for large volume production, without the need for batch processing
  • Safer than flame brazing
